How to sign a PDF
- Upload the PDF you want to sign — it is opened locally, never sent to a server.
- Draw your signature in the pad — or switch to Upload to use a photo of it — then click "Add to current page".
- Drag the signature to the right spot and resize it with the corner dot. Switch pages to sign in more than one place.
- Click "Sign & Download" to get your signed PDF.
Sign contracts without uploading them
The documents you sign are usually the most sensitive ones you handle: employment contracts, NDAs, lease agreements, invoices. Most online signing tools make you upload the document — and your signature — to their servers, where both sit in queues and storage you cannot audit. CoolPDF turns the flow around: the document is rendered by your own browser, and the signature you draw or upload never leaves your device either. It exists only in this tab’s memory while you work, is stamped into the PDF locally, and is gone the moment you close the page. No account, no upload, no copy of your signature anywhere but in the document you download.
Frequently asked questions
Is a drawn signature legally valid?
In many jurisdictions, yes for everyday documents: the US ESIGN Act and the EU’s eIDAS regulation recognize simple electronic signatures for most contracts. Some documents — wills, notarized deeds, certain government forms — require specific formats or qualified signatures. When in doubt, check the requirements of your particular document.
Can I use a photo of my signature instead of drawing?
Yes. Switch to the Upload tab and choose a photo or scan of your signature — dark ink on plain white paper gives the cleanest result. The white background is removed automatically, right in your browser, so the signature blends into the document. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Can I sign in more than one place?
Yes. Add as many signatures as you need, on any page — each one can be moved and resized independently. They are all stamped into a single PDF when you download.
Do you store my signature?
No. Your drawing exists only in your browser tab’s memory while you work and disappears when you close or refresh the page. It is never uploaded, saved, or sent anywhere.
