Your files are processed locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How to convert Excel to Markdown

  1. Drop the .xlsx or .xls file onto the upload area, or click to browse.
  2. Click "Convert to Markdown" — the conversion runs locally in your browser.
  3. Download the download.md file with one Markdown table per worksheet.

Your numbers stay on your device

Spreadsheets hold the numbers that matter: budgets, payroll, client lists, financial models. Converting them on a random online tool means sending all of that to someone else’s server. CoolPDF reads your workbook and builds the Markdown entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab removes every trace.

Frequently asked questions

How are sheets handled?

Every non-empty sheet becomes a "## Sheet: <name>" section with a GitHub-flavored Markdown table. The first non-empty row becomes the table header.

Are formulas converted?

Cells are exported with their computed values as stored in the file, not the formulas themselves.

What about .xls files?

Both modern .xlsx and legacy .xls workbooks are supported.

CoolPDF is a free, browser-based PDF toolkit. Unlike traditional online PDF tools, CoolPDF processes all files locally on the user’s device using WebAssembly — files are never uploaded to any server. The tools require no account, no email, and no sign-up, and are completely free with no usage limits. This makes CoolPDF suitable for confidential documents such as contracts, medical records, and financial statements.
